Can Yahoo's New Axis Browser Give Google a Run for Its Money?

On my last post we briefly dived into Microsoft's So.cl site providing convenience to their social media site that Google failed to do. In this post we will look at Yahoo making some unique advances to the search engine experience. For quite awhile now, Google has completely dominated the search engine arena. So much in fact that many browsers began to just have their engines powered by Google. But here comes Yahoo with a new browser that may just turns some heads. It's called Axis and they just might be onto something here.

Can Yahoo's New Axis Browser give Google a Run for it's Money?

On my last post we briefly dived into Microsoft’s So.cl site providing convenience to their social media site that Google failed to do.

In this post we will look at Yahoo making some unique advances to the search engine experience.  For quite awhile now, Google has completely dominated the search engine arena.  So much in fact that many browsers began to just have their engines powered by Google.

But here comes Yahoo with a new browser that may just turns some heads.  It’s called Axis and they just might be onto something here.  It’s not perfect but it is convenient and cool. I think that’s the best way to describe it.

I first caught onto this browser as an app for my iPad.  I have somewhat of an obsession with browsers so I thought why not! Let’s see what Yahoo can bring to the table that might give Google a challenge.

  1. From the first glance, you can see the emphasis of it being a very visual browser.  My initial search brought up the 1st page sites displayed in their individual boxes that you could scroll through horizontally. Both the iPad and desktop versions are pretty cool to zoom through very quickly.
  2. You can also change the search to images and scroll through pictures seamlessly. It’s a thousand times better than the google image search as far as navigation. Trust me on that one.
  3. One very cool feature that I love is the fact that the Yahoo Axis browser is actually a plugin.  So you don’t have to go through the hassle of downloading it to your hard drive. It’s an add-on that can be used on Internet Explorer, Chrome & FireFox.  It works incredibly well on all 3 platforms.  And it acts just like a plug-in as well that can easily be disabled whenever you want. And this feature definitely isn’t anything I see Google trying to emulate (not that they necessarily need to).

So I say well done Yahoo.  Will it make noise and cause Google some problems?  Probably not but only time will tell if they can back some of that search engine market again.

It’s one of my favorite browsers to work with already.  Give it a try and tell me what you think!
